Awarded to hotels and meeting venues demonstrating an eco-friendly and sustainable approach.
INITIATIVE OF THE YEAR
Greengage 2024 finalist.
The winner of this award will be announced in January 2024.
OF THE YEAR
Part of this award nomination included measures Aviator has taken to reduce its environmental impact and promote social responsibility.
WASTE PER GUEST
Through these implemented initiatives, waste per guest went down from 1.43kg per guest to 0.65kg, a reduction of approximately 50%.
Guests staying longer than 3 nights will have their bedding changed once a week.
Mini toiletries from bathrooms have been replaced with large refillable bottles.
Disposable slippers have been removed from bedrooms and are now only available on request.
Glass water bottles have been replaced with cans in order to reduce the amount of carbon it takes to transport waste to the recycling centre.
MEETINGS & EVENTS
Guests attending small meetings at the hotel are given individual bento boxes for lunch, rather than a buffet that previously produced a lot of food waste.
WATER FILTER SYSTEM
All events are provided with glass water bottles that are refilled on-site using the water filter system, reducing the use of cans and bottles.
FOOD & DRINK
All food waste generated by the hotel is sent to an anaerobic digester which produces biogas and fertiliser that can utilised or turned into electricity.
All light bulbs in the hotel were replaced with LED lights. Along with energy optimisers and low electricity use equipment, this now delivers a combined 10% year-on-year reduction in energy used per occupied room
Aviator has pledged to be Net Zero by 2030. This means cutting greenhouse gas emissions to as close to zero as possible, with any remaining emissions being cancelled out through other activities.
